We recommend our Recommended Beginner's Set . This set includes almos t everything you need to start Japanese woodworking. We know it’s a big investment. If this set is too much investment for you to start, please check our Essential Beginner's Set (However, we are sure that you will soon be aware that you need all the tools in the Recommended Beginner’s Set. So, to save on shipping costs, we recommend that you purchase this set from the beginning)

Yes, that's true. This is because of the idea that tools should be tuned to the tastes and habits of their owners. By tuning your own tools, you will be equipped with a solid foundation in a variety of woodworking techniques. The initial tuning process includes: 

• Setting the hoop of chisels
• Adjusting the tightness of a plane blade
• Conditioning the sole of the plane body
• Flattening the back side of a blade
• Sharpening the bevel of a blade

and so on and on.... (the initial tuning processes can be found in our premium tutorial video courses ).
