Congratulations! We salute you for choosing the more challenging journey of unplugged woodworking, where no machines or power tools are involved.

However, we also know that, in contrast to plugged woodworking, where anyone can easily achieve satisfactory results using machines and power tools, woodworking using only hand tools can sometimes be frustrating and discouraging. This is especially true if you are just starting out with woodworking. In the early days of my apprenticeship, I used to get frustrated with my slow progress while my fellow apprentices finished their work and went off to lunch.

It was then that my master suggested a few simple projects to help me develop basic hand tool skills. After a long day's work, I tackled these projects alone in the empty workshop.

A few weeks later, after all the projects had been completed to a satisfactory level, my skills with hand tools had improved to the point where I could make almost anything I wanted.

If you're experiencing frustration at the lack of progress in your skills just like I did, these projects are for you. These 4 simple projects will give you basic skills using hand tools and the confidence to do unplugged woodworking.

Contents: 4 skill building projects

- Japanese Style Shooting Board

- Try Square

- Japanese Style Marking Gauge

- Folding Pillow

Tools required: Basic woodworking tools (chisels, planes, saws, hammers) are all you need (in addition, of course, to layout tools such as rulers).

What are you waiting for?
The potential to create beautiful masterpieces already lies in your hands!
